About Us
Established in 2024 with a vision to support seniors & our community
The story behind the name
The Cartwright family has been part of the Crowsnest Pass for generations. As we work alongside older adults in our close-knit rural community, we are continually reminded of the importance of honouring those who built the foundation of the place we call home. When it came time to choose a name, we wanted one that reflected our family’s roots, resonated with the people of the Pass, and represented our commitment to caring for our community.
Jay Desaunoy, Owner and Director of Cartwright Cares, is the great-granddaughter of Bert Cartwright (Alberta Cartwright, pictured to the right). Inspired by her family’s legacy, Jay is passionate about helping seniors remain in the community where their histories, families, and deepest roots are found. Cartwright Cares is more than a name—it is a reflection of generations of connection, compassion, and commitment to the people of the Crowsnest Pass.
Why create a senior support service in the Crowsnest Pass?
The senior population is expected to continue to grow until 2050, making local senior supports more important than ever. For older adults who wish to age in place, access to practical, reliable services is essential for maintaining independence, health, and quality of life.
In rural communities like the Crowsnest Pass, seniors often face greater barriers to care, including longer travel distances, fewer local services, and increased social isolation.
At Cartwright Cares, we are often the first point of support—providing personalized services that begin with everyday needs and grow alongside each person’s changing circumstances, helping seniors remain safe, connected, and independent in the community they call home.
Why is Cartwright Cares a “Private” service?
Publicly funded healthcare provides essential services that seniors and families rely on every day. However, every person’s needs are unique, and some supports fall outside the scope or timing of publicly funded programs.
Cartwright Cares was created to work alongside existing healthcare services by providing flexible, personalized support that helps seniors remain safe, independent, and connected at home. Whether it’s assistance after a hospital stay, transportation to appointments, companionship, or ongoing wellness support, our goal is to complement—not replace—the public healthcare system.
As a private service, some of the supports we provide may be eligible for public health funding or other funding programs, depending on individual circumstances. We’re happy to help individuals and families explore available funding options and connect with the resources that best meet their needs.
About Our Team & Services
Cartwright Cares is proud to offer a diverse team of compassionate professionals with a wide range of skills and experience, including Community Support Workers (CSWs), Home Cleaning Specialists, and Recreation Therapists.
Our team primarily provides personalized support in clients’ homes, helping seniors maintain their independence, safety, and quality of life. Where resources are available, our staff also provide contracted services in supportive living, long-term care, and other community settings.
By building trusting relationships with clients from the very beginning, we’re able to provide continuity of support as needs change. We can help individuals and families navigate the healthcare system and, when appropriate, continue supporting clients as they transition into other care settings—working alongside healthcare providers to complement the services they receive.
At Cartwright Cares, our goal is to provide compassionate, consistent support wherever our clients call home.
